Lee and Fran (Van Schoyck) Benuska's Granddaughter Selected to 2013 Tournament of Roses Royal Court
Following October 8, 2012 announcement of the 33 finalists for the 2013 Tournament of Roses Royal Court, Kathryne Benuska and six other princesses were announced. As ambassadors to the 124th Rose Parade, the young women face a packed schedule of over 150 community and media functions leading up to the January 1, 2013 event. Over 900 Pasadena-area young women auditioned for the coveted role and were judged on a range of skills, including public speaking, poise, academic achievement, community involvement and personality, according to a release.
The announcement follows a month-long process in which over 900 Pasadena-area young women participated. Selections were based on a range of qualities including public speaking ability, poise, academic achievement, community involvement and personality.
Rose Princess Kathryne Alice Benuska, 17, lives in Altadena and attends Maranatha High School. She is currently on the varsity volleyball team and coaches a team of younger girls in the sport, which she finds very rewarding. Kathryne has been on a mission trip to Guatemala and she plans work internationally in a field to benefit those in need, after majoring in business and minoring in international relations. In her free time, she enjoys singing, reading, acting and doing soduko puzzles. Her parents are Kalmah and Carrie Benuska. Kathryne has a brother, Luke, 19 and a sister, Ellie, 21.
