Muriel Ann Duke-Matlock
Clayton Matlock and I were married on December 29, 1956 at the Presbyterian Church in Covina. My plans to attend UC Berkeley never materialized! (Smile) . . . . .
I worked for Mobile Oil and The San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Clayton and I bought a new home in Glendora. We had a huge oak tree in the back yard. We had BBQ’s, played croquet, ate ice cream, went to the movies, bought a Hi-Fi and planted roses.
We separated in 1964. I would have remarried in the 70’s but the men I met did not want four children (Smile).
Children: Kelly, Cliff, Sharron and Jeff.
Grandkids: I have 16 grandchildren.
I loved being a Mom! We lived in South Pasadena, CA. I loved gardening, swimming, music and reading. I also enjoyed my church and the Pasadena Boys Choir. I bought a Mustang Convertible! I worked for Pacific Telephone, CNA Ins. Co., Orthopedic Hospital and The LA Times.
HIGHPOINT: I lived ten years in the Del Mar and La Jolla area (1981 – 1991). I felt like I was on vacation every day! I walked along the ocean, sat on the La Jolla Bluffs and met people from Europe. I traveled by bus and train. I adopted Cornell University as my own.
JOB HIGHLIGHTS: (1974 – 1988
Los Angeles Times Advtg. Rep – 5 years, Cal Tech, Pasadena, Student Loans – 1 year, Cornell University, West Coast – 4 years and La Jolla Town Council, Admin. Asst. – 3 years.
I moved back to Covina in 1992. I love the memories here and I love having graduated from Covina High! HAPPY 50TH!
